Scientists in Japan have developed a new daily pill that may help reverse osteoporosis, not just slow it down. The research focuses on activating bone-building cells called osteoblasts and reducing bone-breaking cells called osteoclasts to restore bone strength and density.
Scientists at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Tokyo are studying compounds that target the GPR133 receptor, which stimulates the formation of new bone tissue.
In preclinical studies, this therapy increased bone density and improved bone structure. Unlike current medications, which primarily prevent further bone loss, this method aims to rebuild lost bone tissue. It may also work more effectively when combined with exercise, improving both muscle and bone health.
